Sarah Reissfelder

Hello!

My name is Sarah Reissfelder, or Nurse Sarah as the students know me, and I am the school nurse here at Memorial-Spaulding!

I graduated from nursing school in 2020. While waiting to pass the NCLEX, I worked as a school nurse assistant in the Canton Public Schools, where I discovered my passion for school nursing! Once I passed my NCLEX, I began applying for school nurse positions and began in Newton Public Schools in 2021. I worked as a nurse in the district for the 21’-22’ school year, helping out all 23 schools, before finding my home at Memorial-Spaulding! I am so lucky and blessed to be a part of this community and to get to know and care for your children during their time at M-S. My care for each student goes far deeper than just caring for them as medical needs arise - it is a privilege to know each one of them as an individual, too.

Immunizations Required For School

Massachusetts regulations specify the immunizations required for students to attend school.

Medical exemptions (statement from a physician stating that a vaccine is medically contraindicated for a student) must be renewed annually at the start of the school year and religious exemptions (statement from a student, or parent/guardian if the student is <18 years of age, stating that a vaccine is against sincerely held religious beliefs) should be renewed annually at the start of the school year.

Medications At School

The school nurse is in charge of administering all medication during the school day. If your child is in need of being given medication while at school (inhaler, epi-pen, prescription or over-the-counter medication), it is required that:

The medication must be stored in an appropriate prescription-labeled container or bottle.
- For inhalers and epi-pens, please bring these medications in their prescription boxes as well.
A doctor’s order with the medication name, dosage, route, time, and frequency of administration, and date of the order. This must be signed by the provider and must be updated each school year.
A signed medication permission form. The ‘parent/guardian’ section must be signed by the parent/guardian.
